Introducing the Kate Collection – Kate Wrap

Today we are introducing the Kate Collection with the Kate wrap.

The Kate Collection is something that Sara and I have been working on since December and the Kate Wrap is just the beginning!  It uses the same stitch pattern to create a set of accessories that can be worn separately or together. We have a hat, scarf and our trademarked coffee beanie cozy coming very soon! I’m also thinking about some fingerless gloves ….

The Beginning ….

I had an idea for a warm wrap that could be used as a thick scarf with maybe some pockets at the ends. I was busy designing the Robin Poncho so Sara went on the hunt for stitch patterns for me to choose from and set about working out the stitch counts.

Did you see our Robin Poncho? We are thrilled that it has been so popular and so honoured that it was part of ELK Studio’s ‘Make It For Me’ event! Our Community Facebook group have made it as part of a CAL in January – and their ponchos are GORGEOUS!

Our Community group have been awesome! They are so enthusiastic about our designs. The Kate scarf is just finishing up its testing as we speak and the Kate hat  and coffee beanie cosy will go out to testers in the next couple of days!

A New way of Designing

With the Robin Richard Collection we designed a few items that can be used individually or be mixed and matched with ease. There are still a couple of items to be released in this collection. It started us thinking about a different way of producing patterns. The Kate Collection was the first specifically designed as a collection in this way. Expect more collections designed like this in 2020!

To be honest, the Kate wrap was something that I have been thinking about for a little while. And I had my yarn bought and ready! I used Women’s Institute in pink tweed – it’s a yarn that I think is only available in the UK at the moment. But it works up beautifully. I’m not really a ‘pink person’ but this yarn just lept into my basket during a shopping trip. I think it’s a perfect colour for an elegant valentines gift. And, of course, tweed is always popular for the winter months! Sara liked it so much she has asked for a few skeins to be sent to her.

To gift or keep? Or both?

The Kate wrap is elegant and warm and such and easy but effective stitch combination! If you are new to front post double crochet we will have a YouTube video coming very soon. This stitch combo gives you the perfect way to learn something new and you will be surprised how quickly you pick it up!

Its the perfect gift for any occasion, whether you make for friends, family, customers or yourself! The only question is what will you do with yours??

Made with aran or #4 worsted weight yarn it is warm, squishy and so comforting to wear. It’s perfect for the autumn and winter months  whether you are out and about, or at home. You can also use it as a super thick scarf.

Use a dk or #3 yarn for a lacier and more lightweight option to see you through spring as we patiently await the warmth of the summer sun….. I think we are all ready for a little bit of that now! If I’m being honest maybe the ‘patiently’ part is a little bit of a porky! I’m longing for some warm sunshine now!

You will notice that this wrap has no pockets on it! That was a conscious decision that I made after the wrap was created.  But if that idea appeals, don’t worry! They will appear on a wrap /scarf combo soon!

What you will need for the Kate Wrap:

Materials:

• Approx 950 yards of #4 worsted weight / aran yarn (or make it with a #3 yarn for a lighter wrap) Some of our testers used up to 1200 yards so it depends on the yarn you use!
• 5mm hook
• Scissors
• Tapestry needle

Stitches used: double crochet, chain, and front post double crochet.

Gauge is not important for this project as you can add or reduce length on the foundation row / starting chain, to achieved desired size. We give the stitch multiples for you.

Our wrap measures 24” by 73”. It is worked in shorter rows from left to right rather than bottom to top,  so you can make it as long as you desire.
