We designed this cardigan as part of the first Preemie Crochet Challenge hosted by us in August 2020. You can find out more about why we started this challenge here.
This preemie cardigan is an easy top down pattern. It is worked from the top down in one piece so there is no seams, then you work the arms straight onto the project. There is just enough room in the sleeves to accommodate any tube etc that baby may need in those precious first few hours, days or weeks. This pattern uses sc and hdc with a few hdc around the trim for the button band. A great pattern for a confident beginner to crochet – if you know these stitches you can make this pattern!

❤ LAYOUT:
Our patterns all share the same layout which is easy to read and easy to find important information you need, such as materials needed, sizing information, gauge information, and special stitches used as well as how to do them. The stitches used in this cardigan are simple – sc and dc. So the pattern is suitable for adventurous beginners.
❤ SIZE:
This pattern is written for one size and is suitable for babies from about 29 weeks gestation. It measures 7’’ across the back before sleeves. length and sleeves are very easily adjusted by adding rows / rounds.
❤ MATERIALS:
Any dk or #3 weight yarn is suitable for this project. You will need between 130 and 150 yards.
