Krissy’s Over The Mountain Crochet

This week we interviewed Krissy with Krissy’s Over The Mountain Crochet.  Get ready to meet this lovely lady…

Introduction

Hi, I am a mother of 5 and grandmother of 4. I live in a very country setting between two mountains in West Virginia. Serving my Lord Jesus Christ is number one in my life, then creating beautiful things, whether it is through crochet or sewing keeps me sane and happy. I feature free crochet patterns, a few sewn items and recipes on my blog, https://krissysoverthemountaincrochet.com/

When did you start designing?

I started designing around 2005, when I was a part of the Ebay Boutique community. Then when Ebay raised their rates we all made a mass exodus to Etsy. I was selling and creating handbags, children’s boutique clothing and pageant wear, along with crocheted accessories. Then I started getting requests for the patterns to my crochet designs and I thought, “What have I got to lose?”

Do you have a blog? If so, when did you start that up?

I do have a blog. I started it 2.5 yrs ago. https://krissysoverthemountaincrochet.com/

What was your initial plan with your blog and designs?

I wanted to share what I create with others.

How have your designs and designing process evolved?

I started designing crocheted hats as well as baby clothes. I then moved to household items and garments.

What designs do you specialize in?

I don’t really have a specialty.

Do you have a favorite few stitches you like to use or do you always try to do new ones?

I do love the cross stitch, but I use a little bit of everything.

When you come up with an idea, does it come first from yarn you have or do you find yarn to fit the idea?

A little bit of both.

When did you start crocheting?

My grandmother showed me the basics when I was a little girl. After I was married I picked it back up and worked with what she taught me.

What made you decide to become a designer?

I think I have always been a designer, but didn’t acknowledge myself as such. I made all of my children’s clothing when they were small. I made their coats, frilly dresses, boys suits. As well as clothing for my husband and I. When the children didn’t want me to sew for them any longer I was sooooo sad. I found ebay boutique and that filled the void. I never thought of myself as a designer until recently. I have to create something or I become so sad.

Are there any crochet techniques/stitches you wish to learn this year?

If I have the time, I would love to learn mosaic crochet.

What are your biggest crochet challenges and how do you plan on overcoming that?

Not having enough time, and I have no idea how to correct that one.

Have you ever lost your crojo and how did you overcome that?

No…I always have a desire to make something new.

What three tips can you offer to anyone that crochets?

Please relax and enjoy the craft.
Play with your yarn often, and enjoy the dream’s you have for your skeins.
Don’t be ashamed to ask the price you want for your creations, when someone asks you to make something for them. Always ask for payment in full plus shipping for custom orders, unless it is family and friends, then ask 50%.
