Part of the Highland Neamh Collection
The Highland Neamh Blanket is the newest addition to my growing Highland Neamh Collection — a coordinated set of modern rustic crochet patterns that all use the same textured stitch combination.
Patterns in the collection include:
- Wrap – This is more like a snood I guess, but it has been a popular pattern in my shops!
- Cowl and Infinity Scarf – This design is written for both 3 (DK) and 4 (aran) weight yarns and you can choose between a cowl or infinity scarf! It covers all sizes from age 3 to adult.
- Scarf – this is a free pattern on the blog in both 3 and 4 weight yarn.
- Washcloth – another free on the blog post pattern that has a video tutorial for how to work the stitch combination.
- Tee – written in adult sizes from XS to 5XL this is a great layering piece for the summer or your holiday wardrobe!
- Cocoon cardigan – the short sleeved version of this cardigan is available free not eh blog post in sizes XS to 5XL.
- Blanket (this pattern)
Once you learn the stitch combo, you can move between patterns with confidence. Even better — I’ve created additional video tutorials demonstrating the stitch combination while working the washcloth pattern on my YouTube channel, so you’re never left guessing about stitch placement.
This makes the collection ideal for crocheters who enjoy building skills while creating cohesive handmade pieces.
Why Crocheters Will Love This Crochet Blanket Pattern
This is one of those projects that looks impressively complex but is secretly very approachable — my favorite kind.

You’ll love this crochet blanket pattern with texture because:
- It uses easy stitches arranged for maximum texture
- The pattern is built on a simple 6-row repeat
- Perfect for confident beginners ready to level up
- Relaxing and satisfying for intermediate crocheters
- Creates a modern rustic crochet blanket look
- Works beautifully in solid, tweed, variegated, and cake yarns
- Works up quickly thanks to the repeating structure
- Includes video tutorial support for stitch placement
It’s tactile, cozy, and has that timeless, heirloom-style crochet blanket feel without the headache.
Yarn Requirements for This Textured Crochet Blanket
This rustic crochet blanket pattern is designed for:
- Yarn weight: #4 / Worsted / Aran weight yarn
- Hook size: 5 mm crochet hook
Because this is a high texture crochet blanket, yarn choice really changes the personality of the finished piece:
Great options include:
- Solid colors for bold stitch definition
- Tweeds for a farmhouse-style crochet blanket look
- Variegated yarns for movement and color play
- Cake yarns for long gradient shifts
- Rustic wool blends for extra depth
I made my sample using a pink tweed in Women’s Institute Aran yarn (400g skeins). It gives gorgeous stitch definition, although it’s currently only available in the UK at HobbyCraft! Any comparable aran/worsted yarn will substitute well.

Highland Neamh Blanket Pattern:
Row 1: Ch 150, dc in 4th ch from hook and each ch across. OR Fdc 148. (148 sts)
Row 2: Turn, Ch1, DC in first st and each st across. (148 sts).
Row 3: Rep row 2
Row 4: Turn, Ch1, dc in first st, *sk the next st, dc in the next st, working behind the dc just made dc into the skipped st*
Rep from * across until you have 1 st remaining. Dc in last st..
Row 5: Ch4 (counts as a dc, ch1) *sk next st, dc between the two posts of the X St from the previous round, Ch1. Rep from *across until you have worked a dc, ch1 into the last X st from the previous row. Dc in last st. Turn
Row 6: Turn, ch1, dc into the first st, working only into the ch1 spaces, sk the first ch1 space, *dc into the next ch1 space, working behind this st dc into the skipped ch1 space. Rep from * across until you have worked the last ch1 sp. DC in last st.
Note: You will start the next X st in the very next ch1 sp which will result in the second stitch of the X st sharing the ch1 sp with the previous X st. and will mirror how rows 4 and 5 work together. This will keep your stitch counts correct. So make sure to work that last X st!
Row 7: Ch3 (counts), Dc in next st and each st across
Rows 8-9: Rep row 7
Rows 10 on: Rep rows 4-9 until your blanket is approximately 47” tall making sure to end with row 9.
Do not fasten off.
Finishing your Rustic Crochet Blanket:
For this blanket I went with a super simple 1 round double crochet border. The texture of the blanket itself is very striking and I did not want to take away from that.
Round 1: Turn, ch1, dc in first st and each st across until you reach the final stitch of the side. [2dc, ch1, 2dc] in the final stitch.
Turn your blanket so you are working down the side, dc evenly down the side of your blanket until you reach the corner. Note: I found that working 2dc in each row worked well for me. If you have too many stitches your border will start to ruffle, too few and it pucker.
[2dc, ch1, 2dc] in corner st, turn your work so that you are working along the bottom edge. DC in next st and each st across until you reach the corner st. [2dc, ch1, 2dc] in corner st, turn your work so you are working up the final side of your blanket. dc evenly up the side of your blanket until you reach the corner until you reach the corner stitch. [2dc, ch1, 2dc] in final stitch.
SS to top of first st to join.
