The Perfect Crochet Scarf Pattern Free for Him & Her
Are you looking for a crochet scarf pattern that’s free, stylish, textured, and perfect for all genders? This beautifully designed unisex scarf features two distinct textures that complement each other, making it an elegant and timeless accessory. Designed to be worked along the long side, this technique allows the texture to flow seamlessly across the length of the scarf, creating a better drape, increased visual appeal, and an easier-to-wear design.

The Inspiration Behind This Crochet Scarf Pattern Free
This free crochet scarf pattern was designed in honor of Husband Appreciation Day 2025, celebrating warmth, comfort, and the love shared between partners. So, naturally, I designed something that my husband would love to wear.
Whether you’re making it for your husband, father, brother, or even yourself, the classic texture and customizable design make this scarf perfect for anyone.
Using two colors, such as chocolate brown and cream, enhances its sophisticated look, but you can customize the colors to match the recipient’s personality.

Sizing & Customization Options for This Free Crochet Scarf Pattern
This particular crochet scarf pattern includes 10 sizes, ranging from age 3 to adult men’s large, ensuring a perfect fit for all. You can easily customize the design by:
- Adjusting the width of each section by increasing or decreasing the number of row repeats.
- Making the scarf in just one of the two stitch sections for a more uniform look.
- Adding more colors for a bold, eye-catching effect.
- Attaching tassels or trim to the short ends for extra flair.

Pattern Notes:
- Written in US terms.
- Where instructions differ for sizing these will be noted as: 3-5 (5-7, 8-10, teen, women’s sm, women’s med, women’s lg, men’s sm, men’s med, men’s lg)
- Your stitch counts for each row will remain the same i.e. 15 (15, 19, 19, 23, 23, 27, 27, 31, 31)
- This pattern is worked in long rows from side to side
- Chain stitches at the beginning of any rows do not count as a st until specifically stated.
- Chain stitches within the rows DO count as a stitch.
- Even numbered rows are the right side of your scarf.
- When working your Ch stitches, they do count as a stitch in rows 2-4 so be sure not to work them too tightly!
Special stitches:
FHDC : You can use this as an alternative to the chain starts.
STEP 1: Ch2, YO, insert hook into 2nd ch from hook and pull up a loop, YO and pull through 1 loop on hook (which creates the initial chain start) YO and pull through all 3 loops on hook (to create the hdc). This creates both the foundation chain and the first row of half double crochets at the same time.
STEP 2: YO, insert hook into the chain you just made in the first step (it will look like 2 loops or a normal “v” of the bottom of the stitch), pull up a loop; ch1 using first loop on the hook only; YO and pull thru last 2 loops. STEP 3: continue step 2 until you have desired number of foundation single crochet stitches.
You can find my tutorial on the foundation stitches with the FHDC specifically at 14:17 into the videos:
For right handed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPHOG4VIi_Q&t=10 9s
Left handed – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqkTFzCja-A
DC2Tog: *YO and insert hook into next stitch to be worked, YO and pull through, YO and pull through 2 loops on hook. Rep from * once more times. YO and pull through all 3 loops on hook. Stitch completed.
SDCP: This is effectively a DC2Tog but it is where you place the first and second leg of the stitches that create the ‘staggered double crochet pairs’. I have a blog post on this athttps://sunflowercottagecrochet.com/staggered-double-crochet-pairs-made-easy-a-beginner-friendly-tutorial/ and video tutorials:
