New Crochet Top – The Summer Breeze Tee

New Crochet Top – The Summer Breeze Tee
Spread the love

The Summer Breeze Tee is my gorgeous modern take on using the granny stitch in a garment design. I am thrilled that this one turned out exactly as I imagined it would.

What do you think?

The back of this tee is entirely granny stitch, and the texture on the front at the top is granny stitch.

The main body of the front panel has my favourite stitch combo for tees that don’t show too much skin or bra! You do not need to wear a vest under this one. After all, when the weather is as hot as it has been why would you want to layer up??!

A perfect Summer tee!

This tee will suit all body shapes and the granny stitch works up quickly. The solid section at the front takes a wee bit longer to make, but not too long!

Because I used Stylecraft Naturals for my version it is not a heavy tee so isn’t too warm for those warmer temperatures. It also drapes beautifully and is so comfortable to wear!

The edging:

I have added an optional edging of ribbing around the bottom of the Summer Breeze Tee. I like the ribbing like this, but I know that some people prefer not to have it. Either way it looks fabulous.

If you would like to add the edging, it is included in the pattern and I also have a video tutorial for both left and right handed crocheters on how to do it:

Yarn and other materials used:

You will need a #3 weight (DK) yarn – I would recommend a cotton or linen mix. For this one I used Stylecraft Naturals 60% Bamboo and 40% Cotton mix.

I honestly love this yarn! You get so much in a skein – each skein is 100g and contains 273 yards of this fabulous cotton / bamboo mix. It is perfect for garments as it is not too. heavy and has some gorgeous drape! It also does not spilt when using it and glides around your hook! If you are wanting to try it I would absolutely encourage you too.

You will also need:

  • stitch markers (optional)
  • scissors
  • tape measure
  • 4mm hook.

Sizing:

  • This one is written in 9 women’s sizes XS to 5XL.
  • Designed with 3″ of easy for a comfy fit.
  • An easy construction. Made by sewing two rectangular panels together you will be surprised how easy it is to crochet your own tee if you are new to making your own garments.

Below is a size guide for you with estimated yardage to include the ribbing along the bottom edge:

Hints and tips for making this tee:

The most important tip I can give you is that gauge is everything! The PDF Pattern tells you how wide each of your panels should be and gives you gauge information.

If you cannot meet gauge I have also added information in the pattern notes as to how many stitches to adjust each panel by in order to get the correct width.

Tester Appreciation:

Here are a few photos from my testers.

These photos give you a good idea of how the pattern works up in a solid colour, a self striping yarn and a variegated yarn.

I hope you love this pattern as much as I do!

Happy Crocheting!
