NEW TO CORNER TO CORNER?
I have a free learn to corner to corner course . It has helped a lot of crocheters to master corner to corner. Together we look at reading the patterns, as well as how to do the stitch, increases and decreases and colour changes. I will show you how to work both squares and rectangles too. We also make a couple of free pattern projects together!
There is something about pirates that have sparked the imagination of kids, old and young, for centuries! Maybe it is the lovable rogues from the stories, the hated captains, the search for treasure in exotic lands or just the freedom of the sea that we gravitate towards.
Even my daughter went through a pirate phase. Check out this photo of her in our back garden about to walk the plan into her own pirate ship. (There was no little houses and tea parties for her teddies for her for a good while!)
So don your sea legs, batten down the hatches and embark on this creative project that will surely make you proud!

Inspiration behind the Pirate Map design
I have been wanting to release this pattern to mark International Talk like a Pirate Day today for about 2 years.
The first year I was just too late being inspired and I knew I wouldn’t get it released in time. Last year was just so busy!
I literally did not get time to make sure it was done with all of the events etc that I was participating in.
But this year I was determined to get both the Pirate Map and the sister pattern, the Pirate Ship, out and released. After all, any self-respecting pirate needs their own treasure map!
Construction of corner to corner crochet blanket patterns
This is a corner to corner afghan pattern. As such it is worked flat and in diagonal rows and you will use bobbins.. You can use the HDC method (as I have here) or the DC method for a slightly larger blanket.
I just love how corner to corner blankets are reversible too!
Not a fan of working up corner to corner blanket projects? You can absolutely use the chart to work up a sc or larger half double crochet wall hanging.
As mentioned above, I have a free learn to corner to corner course if you are new to this technique. Together we look at reading the patterns, as well as how to do the stitch, increases and decreases and colour changes. I will show you how to work both squares and rectangles too. Everything you need to know is in this course!
The Yarn
For this particular crochet blanket pattern I used the same yarn as I did for the Pirate Ship pattern – Paintbox Simply Aran.
When it comes to yarn for a crochet blanket for children I would recommend looking for an acrylic yarn as it doesn’t tend to irate many allergies and can be washed int he machine and cool tumble dried.
Paintbox simply aran yarns are is 100% acrylic yarn, which is great for blankets for little ones and adults alike, is super easy to work up and take care of and looks great for years!
