C2C Nordic Christmas Tree Square

C2C Nordic Christmas Tree Square
Spread the love

I designed this corner to Corner Nordic Tree Square  to be part of the Nordic Winter Afghan C2C CAL, hosted by Juniper and Oaks.

Each square in this event is 25 x 25 blocks. And they are all really cute.

Not as easy as it looks!

Why did I decide to do a nordic tree square? I could tell you that it was because for me decorating the tree is my favourite part of Christmas. Or that I love walking in the woods whatever the weather (which I do!)

I knew that October and November were going to be super busy here at Sunflower HQ and I thought a tree would be super easy… Oh, how wrong I was!

I designed 4 squares trying to get my tree to look right. They looked good on graph paper, but when they were worked up C2C does something to the overall design.

I got there in the end, just in time for the red and white yarn that Erin had ordered for us arriving.

Versatile patterns

I think Afghan blocks are really great patterns because they are so versatile. Most people think of afghans when they think of these blocks. And they look great as a blanket!

I sometimes want a smaller project or to use up my stash or scraps. What about you?

You do not have to use these blocks in an afghan. I have some ideas of other things you could make:

  • gift bags
  • tote bags
  • throw cushions
  • pillows
  • an apron
  • a scarf
  • attach a row of them to the top or bottom of a blanket you already have.
  • table runner
  • wall hangings

I am sure I can come up with other ideas if you want them?

Just want the pattern for this square?

No problem! I have added the ad free pdf which contains the written and colour block instructions in all of our shops.

Bundle Details

I like to get on with my patterns. I find waiting for the next release in a CAL sometimes to be frustrating.

If you don’t want to wait for each square to be released, or prefer written or colour block instructions to the chart, there is an e-book available. It also includes a C2C tutorial with pictures & video as well as joining & border

During the CAL you will be able to purchase the bundle for an AMAZING $9.99 – which works out at less than $0.84 per pattern!

Grab it now using the button below (aff link) before the price increases to $15.99!!

Before you start:

Materials you will need for this C2C Nordic Christmas Tree Square:

  • #4 weight yarn 2 colors – I used approximately 150 yards each of the red and white for my square.
  • 5mm hook (or hook of choice with appropriate yarn)
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle
  • Blocking mats and pins (optional)

A couple of notes:

– This is corner to corner graph and is worked bottom right to top left on the right side.

– To work out how much yarn you will need you will need to do a sample swatch with the stitch you intend to use (HDC or DC). Then measure how much yarn you used per stitch multiplying that by the number of stitches of that color and adding some for the tails to be worked in at the end.

– I have the stitch totals are listed under the graph.

The Chart:

Colour on chart No of Sts
White 386
Red 239
