🎄 The Inspiration Behind This Crochet Bauble

Let’s be honest: you simply can’t decorate a Christmas tree without a bauble! It would’ve felt like a crime against Christmas not to include one in this CAL. This design was calling to me, and it came together in no time. In fact, mine took about 20 minutes – just enough time to enjoy a hot chocolate and a cheesy Christmas playlist.

We’re working in the round for this one, so make sure to count those stitches carefully to keep your increases looking tidy. Much like the Granny Square Ornament from the CAL, you can change colour whenever your heart desires – go full rainbow, stick with a classic red and gold theme, or use metallic threads for extra sparkle.

✨ Endless Possibilities for Your Crochet Christmas Baubles

While it’s designed as a tree ornament, this little bauble has big potential:

  • Festive Coaster: Use a larger hook and thicker yarn for a merry little drink mat.
  • Bauble Bunting: Make a whole string of baubles to hang over your fireplace, doorway, or along a staircase.
  • Gift Tags: Add a yarn or ribbon loop and attach one to a wrapped present – talk about handmade charm!
  • Embroider Extra Magic: If your stitching skills are a step above mine, why not embroider a star, snowflake, or initial onto the bauble’s body?

The pattern starts by making the round body, followed by a simple topper and a hanging chain. It’s customisable, stash-busting, and a total joy to make.

✂️ Materials You’ll Need

  • Scrap yarn – any weight you like (I used 4 weight yarn – mostly Caron Simply Soft from previous corner to corner projects)
  • Hook to suit your yarn (I used 4mm)
  • Yarn needle for sewing in ends
  • Optional: ribbon or scrap yarn for hanging, embroidery floss if decorating
  • 1 Stitch Marker (optional) – for the first st of each round if you prefer to mark those.
