Easy Cables Crochet Pattern – Leafy Lanes (Adventure in Cables Part 3 Free CAL)

Welcome back to the Adventure in Cables Crochet Along! Today I’m excited to share Part 3: Leafy Lanes — a quick and simple section featuring easy crochet cables. This part is traditional in style, but don’t be fooled: it’s one of the easiest cable stitches you’ll ever work. The result is a clean, modern-looking twist that adds gorgeous texture to your Adventure Blanket.
This CAL is hosted by myself and Kristine from Ambassador Crochet. Together, we’re bringing you the second installment in our Adventure Blanket Series Crochet Alongs. If you’re new here, the Adventure Blanket isn’t just a blanket — it’s a choose-your-own-adventure crochet experience!
You can find out more about our first Adventure Blanket here.
What Is the Adventure in Cables Crochet Along?
The Adventure Blanket Series is part crochet project, part storytelling journey. As you work through the blanket, you’ll answer a series of fun questions — each with two possible answers. Your choices decide:
- Which section of the blanket you crochet next
- And how the playful adventure story unfolds!
By the end, not only will you have a completely unique blanket (there are millions of possible combinations!), but you’ll also have a quirky little tale that reflects your answers.
Kristine and I release new sections every Monday and Thursday during this crochet along. Which one you work depends on your answer to that day’s question. Each section is designed to be achievable, fun, and give your blanket its own personality which is unique to you.
Part 3: Leafy Lanes – Easy Cables Crochet Pattern
Leafy Lanes is all about keeping things simple. This section gives you a taste of traditional crochet cables without being complicated. If you’ve never tried cables before, this is the perfect place to start.
- Skill Level: Confident beginner
- Stitch Style: Super simple cable twist
- Result: Modern, textured, but not fussy
- Time to Make: Quicker than Parts 1 and 2 (so you can catch up easily!)
Yarn I Used for My Leafy Lanes Section
For my Adventure Blanket, I wanted something special. I chose Rowan Pure Wool Superwash Worsted (a #4 weight yarn) in the shade Ivory.
✨ Why I love it:
- 100% wool — it feels luxurious
- Super soft once washed
- Easy to work with
- A beautiful stitch definition that makes the cables pop
This CAL was actually my first time using Rowan Pure Wool Superwash Worsted, and I’m honestly smitten. If you’ve been thinking of spoiling yourself with yarn, this one’s a treat!
You can use any 4 weight yarn and 5mm hook for your Adventure in Cables. During my videos I used Paintbox Simply Aran which worked well, and Hobby Craft’s Women Institute yarns from their 400g balls.

Pattern Specifics:
Difficulty: Adv Beg/Intermediate – Uses a combination of post stitches that change from row to row, to create the twists
Notes:
- Every even numbered row is an easy sc across row – there are no FP sts to worry about.
- After Row 3 you will work FPdc or FPtr sts only into FPdc or FPtr sts from the row 2 rows below unless otherwise stated.
- When working a Front Post stitch this will count as a st against your current row. E.g. ‘SC in the first st, FPdc around next st’ – this FPdc counts as a st so you miss one stitch from the sc row below before working the next sc.
- Odd numbered rows are right side rows, even numbered rows are wrong side rows.
Special Stitches:
- FPdc (Front Post double crochet) – yo, insert hook from front to back to front around post of indicated st, yo, pull up loop, [yo, pull through 2 loops] 2 times.
- FPtr (Front Post treble) – yo 2 times, insert hook from front to back to front around st indicated, yo, pull up loop, [yo, pull through 2 loops] 3
- times.
- FSC (foundation single crochet) – This is an alternative to the chain start. I have both left and right handed video tutorials on how to do this on YouTube:
