Adventure in Cables CAL Part 11 – Stunning Gnarled Oak Crochet Cables

Welcome back to the Adventure in Cables Crochet Along – we’ve officially reached Part 11, Gnarled Oak! 🎉 This is the final section of your blanket before the border is released, and what a way to finish off the main body of our project.
This CAL has been co-hosted by myself and Kristine from Ambassador Crochet, and together we’ve guided you through a truly one-of-a-kind crochet journey. The Adventure in Cables Blanket is part of our Adventure Blanket Series Crochet Alongs – and it’s not just a crochet project, it’s an experience.
You can find out about the first blanket here.
The Adventure Blanket – More Than Just Crochet
If you’re new here, the Adventure Blanket is inspired by the “choose-your-own-adventure” books from the 1970’s. As you work through the blanket, you’ve answered a series of lighthearted questions – each with two possible answers. Your choices determined which section you crocheted next, and at the same time, they’ve been woven into a fun little story.
By the end, you’ll have:
✨ A completely unique crochet blanket
✨ A funny little tale that reflects the answers you picked along the way
✨ New stitches and techniques added to your crochet toolbox
It’s part crochet, part storytelling, and all about making the journey as enjoyable as the finished blanket.
Each Monday and Thursday, Kristine and I released new sections. Which one you worked on depended entirely on your answer to that day’s question. And now, with Knarled Oak, the blanket body is complete – only the border remains!
Part 11: Gnarled Oak Crochet Cables
Say hello to Knarled Oak, the final section of the Adventure in Cables CAL! 🌳
This design is a mix of traditional crochet cables with a modern twist. The gaps between the cables create striking negative space, while the way each cable interlinks with the others gives it a bold, textured look. The result? A section that is:
- ✨ Striking and modern
- 🧵 Clean and unisex
- 🌟 The perfect balance of classic crochet cables with a fresh style

This section will add a gorgeous finishing touch to your blanket – the kind of stitch pattern that makes people stop and say, “Wait… you CROCHETED that?!”
Yarn Used – Rowan Pure Wool Superwash Worsted
For my Gnarled Oak section, I really wanted to spoil myself. I used Rowan Pure Wool Superwash Worsted in the shade Windsor.
- 🧶 Weight: #4 (Worsted)
- 🌿 Fiber: 100% wool
- 📏 Yardage Used: 375 yards
- 💫 Why I love it: This yarn is soft, durable, and it gets even more luxurious once washed. It’s quickly become one of my absolute favourites for cable work.
Of course, you can use any #4 weight yarn you like for this section – but if you want to treat yourself, Rowan is a fabulous choice.

Wrapping Up the Adventure (Almost!)
With Gnarled Oak, we’ve completed all 11 main sections of the Adventure in Cables Crochet Along. All that’s left is the border, which will tie your unique blanket together beautifully.
This project has been more than just stitches and yarn – it’s been an adventure in creativity, storytelling, and community. Thank you for coming along with Kristine and me on this journey!
Stay tuned for the border release – and get ready to show off your finished Adventure in Cables Blanket. 🧶💜
