Quick and Stylish Crochet Wrap Pattern Perfect for Any Season
Spread the love

I’m thrilled to unveil a crochet wrap pattern: the Gentle Waves Wrap. It was designed for the first edition of Crochet Gallery Magazine in April 2023. Designed with summer elegance in mind, this wrap is the epitome of versatile chic.

It’s textured waves provide a gorgeous drape, making it a perfect addition to any outfit—whether you’re dressing up for a wedding, attending a formal dinner, or simply looking to add a touch of elegance to your everyday ensemble.

The Gentle Waves Wrap is crafted to be a wide and adaptable piece, offering you the flexibility to customize the length to suit your style. The texture not only adds visual interest but also enhances the wrap’s flow and comfort.

Whether you’re wrapping it over a breezy sundress, a tailored evening gown, or your favorite casual outfit, this wrap promises to bring a wave of refinement to your look.

Inspiration behind the design

The idea for the Gentle Waves Wrap came from my desire to design a wrap that combines great texture with a light, lacy look—something that would be visually appealing yet simple to create. I was exploring chevron patterns and thought their shape would be a nice detail for the ends of the wrap. This not only adds visual interest when worn but also offers an opportunity for customization, like adding tassels or other embellishments.

The chevron-shaped ends give the wrap a distinctive touch and make it more versatile. The wrap can be left simple or personalized with various finishing touches (tassels, beads etc), making it easy to adapt to different styles and occasions.

Construction of the design

The Gentle Waves Wrap is made by crocheting from one side to the other. This allows you to easily adjust the length to suit your needs. This ensures that the chevron detail stands out while allowing flexibility in how long you want your wrap to be.

Using cotton mix yarn for this wrap is ideal, as it highlights the texture beautifully without making the wrap too heavy; perfect for summer wear. You could also opt for a luxurious yarn, e.g. an alpaca yarn, if you are looking for a yarn to make you stand out at an event or special occasion.

The texture is designed to add visual interest while keeping the wrap light and comfortable. This stitch combination ensures that the wrap works up quickly. It also makes it practical for warm weather, offering a stylish and breathable accessory.

The Yarn

I used Lionbrand’s Truboo yarn which is 100% bamboo rayon so is lovely and soft as well as being very strong and durable. Not to mention you can get it in a host of fantastic colours! It comes in 100g skeins which is 241 yards / 220m.

This yarn is beautiful and the finish is gorgeous, but if you are a beginner crocheter I would maybe try another yarn first. I found that I frogged a few parts because the yarn split a little so I had to re-do some stitches every once in a while.

Some good alternative yarns would be :

Lionbrand Coboo yarn which is 50% bamboo, 50% cotton mix

Viking of Norway Bamboo which is 50% Cotton 50% Bamboo, 110m (120yds)/50g (1.8oz)

Loops and Threads Silky Soft Rayon From Bamboo 219m (240 yds)/100g

You can use any 3 weight (DK) yarn for this project. I recommend a cotton and / or bamboo mix because of the strength and durability of the yarn. It will last you for years and years to come.
