Inspiration behind the design
The inspiration behind Sawyer’s Blanket is heartwarming. It all began with a thoughtful idea from my dear friend Anita, who wanted to create a special baby blanket for her cousin’s newborn. Eager to bring her vision to life, Anita reached out to me for assistance in turning her concept into reality. Armed with a photo of her notes, I set out to transform her idea into a tangible crochet pattern.
While Anita generously suggested that I claim the pattern as my own, we felt it was only right to honor her original inspiration. Thus, Sawyer’s Blanket was born, named after Anita’s cousin’s precious baby. Sawyer was also a premature baby!
From the outset, this baby blanket design was destined to be a part of the Preemie Crochet Challenge 2024, reflecting our shared commitment to giving back. Following the event, any proceeds generated from the pattern’s sales will be dedicated to a charity chosen by Sawyer’s family, ensuring that this creation continues to spread warmth and love to those in need.
Construction of the design
Sawyer’s Blanket is designed for simplicity and speed. With a straightforward four-row repeat, it uses basic stitches of half double crochet and double crochet.
You’ll work it from the bottom up in rows, making for a fast project. It’s perfect for both beginners, who want to practice their basic stitches, and experienced crocheters looking for a quick and satisfying make.
The Yarn
For both my green and cream versions I used Paintbox Simply Aran yarn. I like this range because it is affordable, has lots of fabulous colours to choose from and looks great for a long time. Not to mention it is easy to take care of as it is 100% acrylic so can be washed and tumble dried on a low heat.
But you can use any yarns suitable for baby projects.
