Welcome back to stitch of the week.

stitch of the week: staggered dc pairs by Sunflower Cottage Crochet

#4 in the series is the Staggered DC Pairs.  It looks like a V stitch, but that’s just your eyes playing tricks on you!  It’s actually an upside-down V shape, completed by doing a double crochet two-together (DC2TOG) over chain 1 spaces from the previous row.

Oh, and did I forget to mention…you work in each stitch twice!

That’s right! They are pairs, after all.

To get this started, you can head over to the Stitch of the Week tab from the Tutorials Menu and download the free PDF, which should also help explain things when you’re offline.

What you need:

You will need any yarn you would like to use—this stitch makes an awesome sturdy mesh so it’s ideal for everything.

You will need the hook that your yarn label recommends.

I used Red Heart Super Saver yarn and a 5mm hook—keepin’ it simple!

Abbreviations:

CH(s)—chain(s)

DC—double crochet

DC2TOG—double crochet two together (decrease)

SDCP—staggered double crochet pair stitch

ST(s)—stitch(es)

*to*–work the instructions between the two *

Rep—repeat

YO—yarn over

Notes:

This stitch’s repeat pattern does not start until row 2.

Ch3 does count as a DC.

Make sure to chain 1 after each dc2tog cluster and each SDCP stitch.

Instructions:

The multiple for this stitch is any odd number plus 3.

For the swatch, I chained 18—15 (odd number) plus 3 more chains at the end.

Row 1: dc2tog starting in the 4th and 5th chains from the hook.  Ch1.  *Dc2tog over the next two sts, ch1*, rep *to* until 3 sts remain: dc2tog over next two sts, ch1, dc in final chain.

Row 2: Ch3, turn.  SDCP—complete a dc2tog as follows: yo, insert hook into first ch1 sp and pull up a loop, yo, pull thru 2 loops, hold.  Yo, insert hook into next ch1 sp, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull thru all 3 loops on the hook.  Ch1.  *Yo, insert hook into next ch1 sp, pull up a loop, yo, pull thru two loops, and hold.  Yo, insert hook into next ch1 sp, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull thru two loops.  Yo, pull thru all 3 loops on the hook*.  Rep *to* until only the turning chain remains.  DC in top of the turning chain.

Row 2 is the repeat for the rest of the pattern.
