Mug Cozy Crochet Pattern. Our Pattern of the week featuring the Alternate Stitch

Mug Cozy crochet pattern by Sunflower Cottage Crochet

We’ve got a great mug cozy crochet pattern for you this week that uses the Stitch of the Week: Alternate Stitch.

As you can see in the picture, it’s a nice and easy pattern you can use to whip up fast in any yarn you’d like (I still recommend cotton for anything kitchen/bath related), add your fancy button, and sell a ton of them at craft fairs!

I think they would make great stocking stuffers for Christmas or a little addition to your holiday decor for Halloween, Christmas, any holiday!

The possibilities are endless!

Here’s the video on how to do the Alternate Stitch:

What you will need to do this pattern:

Sizing

The finished piece measures approx. 3’’ x 9’’

Pattern Notes

Chain 2 at the beginning does not count as sc.

Abbreviations

Ch—Chain

FSC – Foundation single crochet

Sc – single crochet

St(s)—Stitch(es)

Sk – skip

SS – slip stitch

Rep—Repeat

*to*–Repeat the instructions written between the two *

FO – fasten off

Pattern

To start, you can either:

Row 1: Ch15, 2sc in third chain from hook, *sk 1 ch, 2 sc in next ch* across

or

Fsc 13

Row 2: turn, ch2, sk 1st sc, 2sc in next st, *sk next st, 2 sc in next st* across

Rows 3-33: repeat row 2.

Note you can increase or decrease the length by working more or fewer rows.

Row 34: turn, ch1, sc in next 7 st’s, chain 10, sc in same st as the first chain (this creates the loop for the button), sc in each st across

Do not fasten off.

Border:

You can leave it as it is, but I didn’t like the uneven edges that the ch2 made, so I continued working around the cozy. Without turning sc evenly (1 sc in each row) along the longer side, the bottom, and up the second longer side, make sure to put 2 sc in each corner.

FO and sew in ends.

Position and sew the button.
