Extended Half Double Crochet Stitch
Stitch of the Week #7: Extended Half-Double Crochet
This week’s stitch of the week is the Extended Half-Double Crochet (exhdc).
This stitch makes a comfy looking fabric, ideal for blankets, scarves, cowls, and hats. It also works up in any type of yarn weight and color.

You will need any yarn weight and color, I used Red Heart Super Saver in white and Turqua
5mm crochet hook (what the yarn label recommended)
Needle (for weaving in ends)
Exhdc—extended half-double crochet
To work the stitch, you will need to:
- Yo, insert hook into stitch instructed, pull up a loop
- Yo, pull thru 1 loop
- Yo, pull thru 3 loops
To make a swatch, follow the instructions below:
The multiple for this stitch is any number plus 2
To make the swatch, I did a chain of 22. Do this to follow along in the instructions below:
- Yo, exhdc in 3rd ch from the hook, exhdc to end.
- Ch3, turn, (counts as a st), exhdc in the next st (not the first one below the ch3), exhdc to end, placing exhdc in the turning chain.
The repeat for this pattern is row 2. Do this for as big as you want the swatch or project to be.
This creates a lightweight fabric with a little drape. It looks best, in my opinion, with alternating a couple of colors.
